Arsenal Gears up for Championship Season

Arsenal had a home win against Nottingham Forest which resulted in a score of 5-0. They would now be playing for the Carabao Cup in Liverpool. Gunners would be facing MK Dons as well since the Reds were accused of putting in a player who was ineligible in the game they played at Milton Keynes. The match they played against Manchester United on 30th September 2019 resulted in a tie 1-1.

Unai Emery, the Arsenal boss, remained coy about Rob Holding and whether he would be starting the match played against Manchester United on Monday. Among other players, Sokratis and David Luiz are playing a partnership and are yet to convince the crowd that they are effective as a team. Many are awaiting Rob Holding’s return since he was injured. The 24-year-old comes back and his return has been long-awaited. Others who were injured and returned recently to the A team are Hector Bellerin and Kieran Tierney.

WINTERBURN: GUNNERS CAN’T BE SELF-FUNDING

Former Arsenal player Nigel Winterburn has fired a warning to the Arsenal board that progress will not be made at the club until the Gunners are ready to splash the cash like their fellow Premier League rivals.

Winterburn opines that the club now appears like they are ‘self-funding’ and they cannot win titles this way as he feels they should spend more money on top transfers.

Mkhitaryan Happy To Play With Ozil

Arsenal playmaker Henrikh Mkhitaryan says it is a pleasure to play alongside teammate MesutOzil. He believes that they can combine to devastating effect for their opponents. Both of them were instrumental to the 2-0 defeat of AC Milan in the first leg of the Round of 16 in the Europa League.

Following recent woes including back to back losses to Manchester City in the EFL Cup final and Premier League, there were renewed attacks on Coach Arsene Wenger and the team as a whole. The Gunners were even predicted to lose to a Milan side on the rise but the Premier League side humbled their hosts at the San Siro. Ozil recorded two assists to help an improved Arsenal side put a leg forward in the next stage.  Continue reading “Mkhitaryan Happy To Play With Ozil”

OZIL STAYING PUT AT ARSENAL

Reports in England claim Mesut Ozil has decided to stay put at the Emirates Stadium. The German is expected to agree a £275,000 a week deal before the end of the season even as Manchester United and Barcelona remain interested. The 29-year old has been the subject of a long drawn contract issue but he is expected to agree fresh terms that will keep him at the club for many more years.

The player can sign pre-contract with foreign clubs from January or talk with other interested local sides but bookies bet 1/5 that he would stay put. The Catalan side can escape a hefty transfer fee if they agree terms with the player in January. They would only have to pay Ozil sign-on fees to get him.

SPALLETTI RISKS MORE IN JOINING INTER MILAN

Luciano Spalletti has had a respectable run at the coaching scene for the past 22 years.

There was a time he was one of the hottest coach in the world. His decision to move to Russia and take over Zenit St Petersburg undoubtedly dimmed his image in the eyes of club officials fighting tooth and nail to add a capable hand to the club.

Italian football since the decline of both Milan clubs appear to be taking up new shapes that portray that a new set of powerhouses are taking up the place of the once holy trinity the Milan clubs formed with Juventus. Roma and Napoli have been trying despite losing their best players to the bigger fishes of Europe and the one in Turin.

With Roma, Spalletti looked like he was on to something special alas he decided to pull the plug. Internazionale few days ago announced on their official social media account that the 58-year old was taking over the team and attempt doing what 10 coaches have failed to do in the past 7 years – return the Neazzurri to their former status. ARSENAL MAKE FA CUP FINAL

Arsenal have qualified for the FA Cup final after they saw off a challenge from Manchester City in the semi-final on Sunday.

It was a battle of tactics as Arsene Wenger got the better of his counterpart Pep Guardiola in the keenly contested encounter – his eight FA Cup final in 21 years.

Wenger still has a long way to go to appease the Arsenal fans as there is still the risk of not making Champions League next term. However, an FA Cup victory would do something to lubricate the friction.

On a similar note, it is more woes for Guardiola who enjoyed successes at Barcelona and Bayern Munich. His move to the Etihad came with much fanfare but he has failed to live up to expectations in his debut season. He started with ten straight victories in all competitions but he has faltered, lying in third place in the league, aside losses in the Champions League, EFL Cup, and now the FA Cup.

This is the first time the Spaniard would end a term without a trophy in his managerial career. They were the favourites ahead of the Arsenal clash, particularly with their opponent having a poor run. Arsenal were in their fighting gloves as they battled City at Wembley.
